I'm not sure what to say. My college advisor as a freshman was a female poli sci Prof who happened to be a Republican and she was an oddity because the rest of the poli sci faculty were conservative Democrats. I got recognized as being an intelligent woman who was a classic nerd. I never felt angry as a teen/young adult because I overcame it by humor and being smarter than the men I dealt with. I understand your perspective completely, I just wasn't there at the same time. I didn't get angry until after I was out of law school and dealing with women with kids earning partnership points stuff. Then afterwards I got angry about Veterans issues, Veteran spouse support, and then seeing women screwed over and over again by age discrimination.

There's certainly plenty to be angry about!

I hear you. I've been called "full of a spirit of controversy" and just this morning had a rant about a particular "lefty" (yes, deliberate scare quotes) writer who was part of the Portland zine scene at the same time I was. He's now regularly appearing in _Salon_. Me? Yeah, not getting anywhere near that prominent with my work.

But...he's white, he's male, and he's part of the peace activist crowd that I've always viewed as suspect. Mix that together with the recent Washington Post editorial advocating that liberal (implied white) women should lower their standards and marry conservative (also implied white) men and once again I'm annoyed that whenever white men get their fee-fees hurt, it's white women who are expected by society to put aside our own goals to make the menz feel better.

Ah well, there are a lot of men who think I'm angry. They're probably right to think so, because they're the ones I'm angry at.

Yeah, it's hard, especially as a straight woman with a son.
